Model | Perlan 2 Based Space Plane |
Units | Feet |
Description | It occurred to me that aviation for the last 50 years has maxed out at ~80,000 feet. The Perlan 2 project and the U2 Spy Plane have inspired the idea that a Perlan 2 based, Williams powered High Altitude Plane could be created. The Target altitude of the design is 100,000 feet. I am not an aerodynamicist, the model is based on the dimensions of the Perlan 2 available on the Perlan project website. This model is conceptual, if anyone with aeronautical engineering skills is interested, contact me at kentbalas@gmail.com and we could put together a more definitive design. From my reading, the low airspeed and relatively high Mach numbers required may make the wing design particularly difficult. |
Source Quality |
3 - The source material used to create this model was Good. This means good 3-view drawings were used to create the model.
